H1 Tag – An important factor while making SEO strategy

How one can distinguish between the H1 and the title of a page

H1 is a specific part of the HTML code that surrounds the text. It was originally intended to display this text as the largest text on the page.

When cascading style sheets (CSS) were developed, one of the things web developers could do was to take the standard H1 format and customize it for the rest of the text (color, font, font size) the page. This meant that the H1 was sometimes no longer the largest text on the page.

When Google originally wrote its algorithm, CSS was not even integrated. In fact, it was only registered in March 1998, shortly before the founding of Google (September 1998), the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and was therefore not yet widespread.

In the end, the H1s (and most importantly still) were a good indicator of what the most important text on a page was.

The title of a page is the same, but without the official code H1 surrounding it.

MANAGEABILITY AND RELEVANCE

Most importantly, the many signals (of which H1 is one) are one-page forming and indicating what the topic of the page is (a.k.a., "Aboutness").

The relevance of the page to the searcher's search query determines whether it is listed in the result set or on the search engine results page (SERP).

What's not the key here if the page has an H1 tag, but the text that is actually in that H1 tag.

PLAY THE SYSTEM

Therefore, H1 is of minor importance to the Cape itself. Although it's great if the title is included in the H1 code, it's not absolutely necessary.

That's why "gaming" headers - such as a small piece of text at the top or bottom of a page embedded in H1 and CSS to keep it small - do not work.

Therefore, Google completely ignores H1 when it is wrapped around an image (which is a non-standard usage, an H1 is a text modifier).

And finally, Google can say that if your header is visible on the page but not included in the H1 tag, it's still an H1.

OTHER APPLICATIONS OF THE H1 LABEL

Another important element that the H1 serves is the ease of use. It is especially useful for people with visual impairments and people who use screen readers.

Almost all major screen readers have the option to switch to the H1 tag on the page to tell the visitor what it is about. If it's missing, your website is definitely not as usable and accessible as it could be.

As Google places more emphasis on usability than ever before, especially on the usability of mobile devices, it is becoming increasingly important.

H1 & SEO TAGS

As you can see, the H1 tag is important enough for SEO, usability and accessibility.

Ideally, you should have one clearly marked on each page of your website.

Also make sure that the H1 strengthens the point of the page and that there is only one H1.

If your site already has headers that are not encoded as H1s? It's unlikely that adding the H1 tag makes a significant difference in your overall SEO strategy.
